SAR Dog Jasper

Jasper is a 16 month old "Fox Red" Labrador who is in training to become a search and rescue dog. His specialties will be in wilderness and avalanche search.
We are both part of a rigorous program which teaches us the tools we need as a team to locate a missing person in a given area. Jasper uses his nose to search the area, ranging 10s-100s of feet from me, while I watch him for signs that he is detecting scent and track the ground we have covered with a GPS. If he finds someone in the area, he is trained to return directly to me, give me an alert that he's found someone and lead me immediately back to the person.
For Jasper, this is the best "game" in the world. For the SAR team, we can rely on his excellent sense of smell and his love for making a new friend to help find someone in need.
Volunteers are needed to be training subjects. Contact me if you are interested in participating in training a future SAR Dog.
